Gamers game on Windows because there isn't a huge amount of games on Linux/MacOS. Developers/producers don't make games on Linux/MacOS because not many gamers use them. As a result, the issue is that gamers have no choice but to go with Windows if they want to play all of their games. Hopefully, the Steam Machines break this cycle and bring more multiplatform gaming around. If all games got Linux ports, those Linux statistics would surely shoot up(probably not Mac as much, though, due to its proprietary nature). Originally posted by:Dude, using MAC for games.it's.it's not right. I mean, I don't have anything against you but.really? After Apple discontinued their 128-bit land, and ditched Power PC, all Apple computers have actually become 100% completely normal PCs with intel processors and nvidia gpus. Except they cost twice as much as anything else, even after normal PC-world price hiking, since Apple people are a bit dumb with their money. Or they just like to demonstrate that they have a lot of it by wasting it on a platform dedicated to sucking them dry. Except with more money involved than for those poor sods that are forced to be sucked dry by Microsoft, or something. It's a status thing, I guess. I mean, there was no real problem running fairly interesting code on the old PPC platform either. But it's at least easier than it was to port titles now, owing to the fact that the hardware is the same. In fact, most 'porting' is not really much more than packaging and settings. Meanwhile, the OS is actually less resource hungry than Windows if you measure random interrupts, and things that actually matter to games running along side it. So basically if there was some minimal effort to include Linux and Mac in the output from the toolchain developers use - those versions would typically be better than the 'PC' version. In fact, you have many games running on DirectX in 'emulation', that runs better under Linux than they do in an 'innate environment', because the boot lacks the infinite amount of crap Microsoft puts on your computer. So there's no need to fight. The best platform for playing 'PC' games on is Linux. And to more or less the same degree, Mac is also a better platform for running PC games on. Or to put it in a differebt way, the worst platform to run PC games on is a Windows PC, or what 99% of people use *shrug*. Originally posted by:You're right, sorry. Waaaaaaaay back in the prehistory of computers, games came out equally for Macs and PC.
